What do we expect from this year?

One thing we have learned throughout 2020 is that nothing is predictable. I mean who would have expected that we would be stuck at home for almost one year because of a pandemic.

I didn’t.

Well, now we are standing in front of a new year, some may even believe that 2021 is a new era. But what will change? Many of us probably have multiple promising resolutions like this year I will work out every day, eat healthy, go out as much as I can and go on as many one night stands as possible. Reading this you might already feel the pressure to realize all of these resolutions and you start drowning in this obsession to become a ‘better person’. But what is a better person? Is a better person defined by how well we eat or how we manage our home office most effectively? Many of us are subconsciously influenced by images that have multiple filters on them that are shared through platforms like Instagram or TikTok. Just go on TikTok for 10 minutes and you will come across crazy transformation videos or people that try to teach you that working out every day is the only way to feel good about yourself. Seeing all of these ideals and people that worked on themselves throughout 2020 creates in many of us the desire to do so too. And if we did not achieve this social media ideal, we create this obsession to do so in 2021.

But one thing we learned in 2020 is that we often take things for granted and don’t appreciate the small things. Like appreciate the friends one has, the development one already made or simply appreciate yourself. So let’s make 2021 not the year we try to run after other people’s ideal but rather the year we truly learn to love ourselves, appreciate the small things we already have and become a grateful person. Be grateful for the friends and family you have, moments you experienced and love you felt.
